I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted but it’s been a crazy start to February! I have been looking at getting another job now that I officially have my bachelors and I have been applying and interviewing like crazy! Also, I have been trying out some new Sephora stuff, so I am just basically giving the products time to sink in and then I’ll post a review about them.
But, that’s not what you’re here for! You’re here for the Julep Cupid Mystery Box! I did get two of them, since it was supposed to be “guaranteed” that you wouldn’t get product overlap if you ordered four or less boxes in the same transactions…. WELP.. I ended up getting dupes in my two boxes… but whatever I guess.
Here’s what I got:
Don’t mind the cat in the background I actually cut out the last three polishes behind the freedom top coat. (Side note: I purchased the freedom top coat – It’s not part of the boxes) I ended up with 10 polishes in total (One of which was an extra order, since I got one box with a “Free nail Color” card in it and the other with an unreleased holo).
The three darkest polishes I have are (from left to right): “Evangeline,” which is the previously unreleased holo, “Charlotte,” and “Trina.”
“Evangeline” is an orange-red holographic. Honestly, I haven’t been super impressed with Julep’s holo collection thus far. If it’s not in the perfect light, all the holos just seem like they are ordinary shimmer colors.
“Charlotte” is a purple creme polish that I absolutely love and I actually have a NOTD for you at the bottom of this post showcasing “Charlotte” and “Emma.” It has full opacity in two coats and dries quickly.
“Trina” was my “Free Nail Color” card pick. I really wanted a dark, almost ox-blood color without going too burgundy. This is the perfect shade. It is a really smooth, dark purple shimmer. If you look at it under regular light it looks dark purple, but it low light settings, it really looks like a shimmery black. I am a big fan!
Next up is (from left to right): “Niecy,” “Rose,” “Rose,” and “Molly.” As you can tell, I got dupes of “Rose.” Both “Niecy” and “Rose” are pulling more pink than they are in real life. In my opinion, “Niecy” is a nice bubblegum pink, while “Rose” is more of a neon watermelon red. All of these are creme shades.
“Molly” is a really great true-red color. I don’t typically go for the bold, vampy reds, but I put on “Molly” and fell in love. It took two coats to cover fully and it looked great for almost five days before it chipped (Honestly, my nail broke before it chipped so… my bad). The only bad thing I have to say about it, is that it is a pain to get off. You’ll see remnants of it on my NOTD. It’s stuck on my cuticles and looks like I murdered my skin around my nails.
The last of my polishes (from left to right): “Emma,” Maya,” and “Lynn.”
“Emma” is a nice sheer shimmer polish. I tried it on bare nail and it gave a subtle sparkle without being too gaudy. I put this over “Charlotte” in my NOTD below. I think it adds a nice sheen to the purple creme.
“Maya” is a nude frosty polish. It goes fully opacity in two coats, but takes forever to dry. I waited around for over an hour just to get dry.. and it still ended up getting smushed.
“Lynn” is the last polish. It’s just a really nice light pink shimmer polish. I have worn it by itself and it is beautiful. It’s a polish that goes for any occasion.
The extra things I got in my box were two Julep lip glosses. They are both in the shade “Camellia.” It’s just a nude gloss. It’s a little sticky, but not too terribly overwhelming. It’s got a nice brush to apply it with, so that’s a plus. I think it would look better over a bold color. It’s practically invisible by itself.
Lastly, I did buy the Freedom Top Coat. I got one of these in my February monthly box, and I really loved it. It gave great chip protection similar to that of a gel manicure and it doesn’t need any curing light. It takes less than two minutes to dry (at least on my nails), and gives a high gloss shine. The only negative I have on this stuff is the fact that it dries up pretty fast in the bottle. I got about 12 coats of polish out of my first bottle before the polish started to get gluey… and by gluey I mean that it literally has the same texture as rubber cement. It is on the expensive side. I paid $14 for it and got free shipping because I’m a maven, but if you aren’t, it will run you upwards of $18 a bottle plus shipping. Le sigh.
Here’s my NOTD. Like I said above, this is “Charlotte”(Purple) and “Emma.” I really like the combo because it reminds me of spring. Here in Ohio, we’re getting mixed signals. One day it will be 50 or 60 degrees and the next day we’ll have four inches of snow. So, needless to say, I’m ready for spring to officially start.
Did you order a Mystery Box (or two or three or four :)) from Julep? Did you get anything really great? Let me know!
